Henna Ceremony

Mehndi Ceremony (Henna Night)

Mehndi, typically takes place one or two days prior to the main wedding day. Henna is symbolically placed on the brides hands. The bride and groom each have their own, seperate, mehndi ceremonies. Female guests are offered mehndi as well. The bride normally wears a yellow or green dress for mehndi and uses only light, or no, make up.

The ceremony will take place on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 7:00 PM.

Pithi Ceremony

Pithi Ceremony

The actual ceremony consists of application of turmeric and sandal wood paste to the bride/ groom. The bride dresses in a bright color and different traditions are performed. A similar ceremony takes place for the groom as well. Now-a-days, the groom gets a little dirty at the Pithi, as his friends will throw eggs, ketchup, mustard, flour, and other products all over him. The brides family will sing auspicious prewedding songs while his ceremony is taking place. Later, the grooms family will come in singing more prewedding songs and it will be a battle between the Bride vs. the Groom. After that there are sometimes dances performed by family members and the night ends with a lot of dancing!

The ceremony will be held at Fun Asia Richardson on Friday, June 12, 2009 at 7:30 PM for the bride and at 8:30 PM for the groom.
